StresStimulus is designed for users without experience in performance testing. However as you are gaining more experience, you will take more advantage of it. When you start StresStimulus it opens a test wizard that starts from recording a scenario, walks you through all configuration steps and ends with completing a test and displaying a performance report. Here are short videos that show how to complete a test and analyze results:

Also, if you register for a trial, you can schedule a support session where your support rep will assist you to complete your first test.

Hi, George,

Thanks for the replies

If any agents are required to install in system servers ( it may be windows server or Linux/unix server ) for load and stress test ?

Also, if 200 - 500 users for load test, how many user workstations are required to run the StresStimulus ?

or any scenario infrastructure/diagram ?

Thanks

Hi,
StresStimulus runs on Windows. Simulating 200 - 500 users can likely be handled by a single controller machine. If your test consists of many large test cases, then you may need one additional agent. Distributed testing diagram is provided here .

Hi, George,

Thanks again.

So I understand, three components are required : Test Designer, Controller, and Load Agent.
For my case ( 200 - 500 users ) and ( max 5 test cases ); one controller, one test designer and one agent are enough, and all of them run in one machine only ? And I totally do not touch the tested applications/servers ?

For above StresStimulus configuration, how many license totally I need to purchase ?

With regards
Benson

Hi @bensonlei,

On your test set up question: In StresStimulus, one piece of software includes 3 components: test designer, controller and a load generator. After installation, StresStimulus runs in Controller mode and uses all 3 components. It may be able to handle 500 users from one machine. StresStimulus has a “health monitor ” that will show in runtime if you need an additional machine http://support.stresstimulus.com/display/doc47/Monitoring+the+Test If it stays green all the time, then one controller machine is enough. If, however, it turns orange or red, then you need another load generator.

To add it, do the following:
1. On a separate machine install the same StresStimulus software.
2. Switch it to Agent mode, as described here http://support.stresstimulus.com/display/doc47/Configuring+Agent After that, test designer and controller will be disabled and only load generator would be available.
3. Then register the agent on the controller as described here http://support.stresstimulus.com/display/doc47/Attaching+Agents+to+Controller
4. Finally, configure load distribution between the controller and agent machines As described here http://support.stresstimulus.com/display/doc47/Configuring+Load+Distribution

On your question about your servers: You're correct that you do not need to install any software or change configuration on your application servers. Load generators access your service through HTTPS just like your end-user client.

On your question about licensing: For 500 VUs you need Ent. Edition with 500 VUs. For 200 VUs, you need Ent. Edition with 250 VUs. One license covers one controller and as many agents as you need. Available choices are weekly pass, monthly, quarterly, annual or permanent license. Pro edition will not work because it supports only one test case. Pricing is provided here http://www.stresstimulus.com/purchase/order

Did I answer your questions ?

Hi, George,

Thanks so much for your great help.

One more question is that if my application is API interface application, instead of https application, same situation ( no need to touch the tested servers ? ).

Hi Benson,

Correct. To test a web API there is no need to install any software or change configuration on your servers.

Hi, George,

From the online document : http://support.stresstimulus.com/display/doc47/Define+Machine

If I want to monitor the CPU percentage, RAM utilization of the tested servers ( Windows/Linux systems ), I have to install the "PerMon agent" into the tested servers ? and also the server credentials ( administrator level ) ?

Thanks a lot
